BMU Student Selbi Kakishova Receives Presidential Award

British Management University is proud to announce that Selbi Kakishova, a student of the University and a member of Uzbekistan's national para-chess team, has been honoured by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, following the 46th World Chess Olympiad and the 3rd FIDE Para-Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.

On 29 September, the President met with the Olympiad's winners and medallists, along with their coaches and families, including members of Uzbekistan's para-chess team, which made history by winning the country's first-ever bronze medals at this prestigious international tournament. In recognition of her outstanding performance, Selbi, together with her teammates, was awarded the Order of Mardlik ("Courage"), as well as a car, a home and a cash prize. Competing on her board at the Olympiad, she won six of her seven games, defeating opponents from, Vietnam, India, Croatia and Serbia, and earned two medals.

Selbi is currently pursuing an MSc in International Management at British Management University. Her success shows how determination, discipline and resilience can lead to achievement on the international stage, while successfully balancing professional sport with academic studies.
